Winter Arc or New Year’s Resolutions? October marks the start of the season when we make a decision. Either we have a last hurrah before starting a New Year’s resolution in a few months, or we tackle a challenge like 75 Hard to end the year strong. With the cooler weather and holidays around the corner, this time of year can feel like it’s time to coast and indulge. It’s easy to make this a Season of Yes and think that January is right around the corner. It’ll be easy to just start at the top of the year. But, what IF we embrace the winter arc?
What IS a Winter Arc?
Think of a winter arc as a quiet beginning. It’s a phase where stillness sets in to promote new growth. During this time, we quietly nurture new habits, reflect, and prepare to emerge stronger in the spring. This doesn’t mean you need to hibernate for three months. But, perhaps take the time to add small habits to our daily lives. It’s a time to slow down and be intentional with what we devote our time to.
Winter arc is the perfect time for an introspective and transformative chapter where growth happens. The new changes and habits don’t have to be dramatic to have a cumulative effect once January 1st comes along. These quiet changes can include:
- Quiet morning walks. These will set an intentional start to the day.
- Meal planning and prepping. This one habit that can have many positive effects. You can lose weight or simply eat healthier, which is always a good thing.
- Create an environment. You can use the winter arc to organize and create an environment conducive to achieving your personal goals.
- Reflection. This can also be a period of evaluation of what habits serve you vs those that hold you back.
Your winter arc starts now! Today is the perfect day to get started. Simply put, changing a habit or two now will put much further ahead than if you waited till January 1st. What will you start on today?
